Selection CommitteeCounselling authority

Tamil Nadu runs one of the most structured medical counsellings in the country, and it has a rule no other state has: 7.5% horizontal reservation for students who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools. For an eligible candidate that single clause changes the entire shortlist, so it is the first thing we check.

The state also holds the country’s densest deemed cluster — Sri Ramachandra, Saveetha, SRM and their peers around Chennai and Chengalpattu. Those seats are allotted by MCC on NEET merit, not by the state, and families regularly confuse the two counsellings.

How a seat is actually allotted

Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Chennai

The Selection Committee conducts state counselling for government colleges and for the government share of seats in self-financing colleges, publishes the rank list, and administers the special reservations including the government-school quota.

RouteWho allots it
State quota (85%)Selection Committee, DME Chennai — nativity and school-study certificates verified
Government-school quota7.5% horizontal reservation for eligible Tamil Nadu government-school candidates
All India Quota (15%)MCC, on NEET-UG merit
Deemed universitiesMCC deemed counselling — Sri Ramachandra, Saveetha, SRM, BIHER and others
Worth knowing

In self-financing colleges the government share and the management share carry very different fees for the same course. Always establish which share an offer belongs to before comparing it with anything else on your list.

The list

29 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu

Every card carries what a family actually needs to compare: who runs the college, how many MBBS seats it has, what it indicatively costs and what the last NEET season looked like. This page covers the private and deemed colleges we track in Tamil Nadu. Government college seats are allotted through the same counselling — ask us and we will map those against your score too.

Working with us

What LS Consultancy does for Tamil Nadu admissions

We check the 7.5% clause first

If you qualify under the government-school quota, everything about your shortlist changes. It is the first document we ask for, not the last.

Nativity paperwork, done early

Nativity, school study and community certificates hold up more Tamil Nadu applications than low scores do. We work through them before the certificate verification date.

Deemed and state, kept separate

Two counsellings, two registrations, two sets of deadlines. We run them side by side so a deemed allotment never costs you a state round.

Honest fee comparisons

We compare government-quota and management-quota figures in the same college openly, including what the annual number leaves out.

Questions we get from Tamil Nadu families

Frequently asked questions

Candidates who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools for the qualifying years the state notifies, and who clear NEET. Eligibility is decided by the Selection Committee against your school records — we help you assemble them, but the state makes the call.

Typically nativity, school study, community where claimed, along with the NEET scorecard, marksheets and identity documents. The exact list is notified each year — bring originals to certificate verification.

No. Deemed universities are allotted by MCC in a separate all-India counselling. You register with MCC for those, independent of the Selection Committee process.

Same college, same course, different share of seats, and a substantially different fee. The government share is allotted through the Selection Committee at the notified lower fee; the management share is filled through the published management process at a higher fee.

The 15% All India Quota and the deemed universities, both through MCC, with no nativity requirement. The state quota and the government-school reservation are for candidates who meet the state’s eligibility rules.

Send us the scorecard. We will tell you what it can reach in Tamil Nadu.

No charge for the first conversation, no seat-blocking, and no promises we cannot keep. Just a counsellor reading your actual NEET result against this year's counselling.
